The first step to setting up your new WordPress profile.

This is the first step to using your website and this may sound daunting to some people, but once you worked through the few easy steps below you will see how easy it is.

We will be looking at everything from registering the first time right up to clicking the publish button in a series of posts to follow.

The first step.

Once your website is ready, you will receive a notice via email to register. There will always be a register link on your site, this allows for any person to register to your website.

Everyone that registers for the first time will automatically be assigned with subscriber status. Subscribers will be allowed to comment and higher account permission are required to create content on your site.

register

By clicking on register you will be redirected to the sign up page. This first step allows for easy registration requiring only a username and your e-mail address.

WordPress log on credentials

Take note that you will not be able to change your username. Your email address are used to verify your account. By clicking the register button, you will receive an e-mail containing a temporary password, username and a link to log in.

Click the link to sign-in and complete the first step. The generated passwords can be tricky, a suggestion will be to copy + paste the password into the log-in. You will be taken to your Profile page, on the profile page you can adjust various profile settings.

IMPORTANT:
The first and very important step: CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD.

WordPress reset password

Remember to click “Update Profile” to save your new password.

Completing your profile.

Add your details to all the available fields in your profile, or as many as possible. The more details you add during the first step the better.

WordPress profile options

As per the image above we would like to point out the following:

  1. Help – By clicking this you will see a quick overview of this page and an option for more detailed descriptions, directly on WordPress.org.
  2. Show Toolbar – It is a good idea to leave this box ticked, with the toolbar showing you will be able to easily add new content and access the admin features of your website.
  3. Display Name – You can select how you want your name to be displayed on all the post you will be making.

We are notified of all subscriptions and once you register we will assigned the right permissions that will show all the publishing options.

The next time you log out and back into the website, you will notice the toolbar on the left and above will be showing more options. The next post will explain these options in detail.

Thank you Southey Mphela for allowing us to use your website in the samples above.
